Client Overview

Client: Names.org, a leading online resource for baby name meanings, popularity data and naming trends.

Industry: Parenting | Consumer Information

Campaign Objective

Prism was hired to establish Names.org as the go-to source for authoritative baby name trends, and to drive growth in web traffic, revenue and domain authority through digital PR linkbuilding.

Strategy & Execution

Every year, parents, grandparents and newsrooms wait on the Social Security Administration to announce America’s most popular baby names. We gave reporters the answer first.

Prism PR partnered with Names.org to turn its predictive model into a national and state-by-state data story. The model pairs more than a century of Social Security Administration birth records with real-time interest from the millions of people who visit Names.org every month. It also has a track record reporters can trust: historically, 95% of its predictions have landed in the official top 10.

What we built:

  • A national forecast: the predicted top 10 boy and girl names in the U.S., with each name’s rise or fall versus the previous year.
  • 50 state forecasts: the predicted top 10 boy and girl names in every state, with the same year-over-year rank changes.
  • State versus nation: how many of the national top 10 names also made each state’s list, which states crowned a different No. 1 than the country, and which names ranked high locally without cracking the national top 10.

How we pitched it: Every state got its own story. Reporters in Alabama received Alabama’s top 10 boy and girl names, what climbed and what fell, and how Alabama’s picks compared with the rest of the country. We did the same for all 50 states, then took the national list to national outlets. Because the forecasts arrived ahead of the official federal release, every newsroom had a first look and a local angle, and a reason to run it now.

Campaign Outcome: 135 Backlinks in One Month

In a single month, the campaign generated:

  • 135 editorial backlinks
  • Average Domain Rating of 75.6
  • A combined audience of 245,790,002 unique visitors per month
  • $2,273,557 in advertising value equivalent

The coverage moved the business, not just the rankings:

  • Revenue: up 27.3%
  • Website traffic: up 70.4%, from 399,958 to 682,554 unique visitors per month
  • Domain Rating: up 2 points, from 55 to 57

Final Takeaway

One data study, localized for every state, earned 135 editorial backlinks in a month and delivered measurable revenue and traffic growth. It is a repeatable model: give each newsroom a story about its own audience, and the links follow.
